Bobby Somerset, a previous owner of Ince Castle, and a founder member of the Ocean Racing Club purchased the renowned Jolie Brise yacht in 1928. After competing in the Fastnet, Bermuda and Santander races he sold her four years later to Lt. John Gage RNR.

Tragedy struck in 1965 when Bobby Somerset, who had been heir presumptive to the dukedom, and two female passengers drowned when Bobby’s yacht was hurled against rocks in rough weather off the coast of the Greek island of Rhodes.
